Here is my project as it develops.

Here is my front cover which i have started to design. I have a background, my artist and her name and a box for my title to fit into.

Here is my finished contents page. It now includes the box to the left which contains the contents information in a black box which tells you everything which will be in my magazine.

Here is my article page so far. It contains a picture, a red box for a title of text to fit into, a couple of picture to show ifferent sides to my artist and a quote from my artist which is located in the black circle.

Here is the final draft of my article page which now contains the text (interview) and the text which i decided to include is the name of my artist new song which is in the red box.

Here is a medium shot of my artist. I think this could be used as a small picture on my article page as she is not looking at the audience so it is not classed as direct address.

This is my next picture, it as a medium shot and contains direct address. This can be used anywhere in my magazine.

This is very similar to the last picture and again can be used anywhere in my magazine.

I think this picture could be used as a smaller image on the article page to use up some space and show a different side of my artist.

Changes, Challenges and Complications

Throughout my project i havnt come accross many complications. For my photoshoot i said i was going to take pictures in the studio and outside. I managed to take a lot of pictures outside which turned out very good but unfortunately i didnt get chance to take any in the studio and when my 'star' was available the studio was fully booked and when it was free it became too late for me to take, upload and edit the pictures onto my magazine which was a real shame because the studio would of gave me great levels of lighting which i couldnt get outside plus my pictures would of been clearer and look more professional. There hasnt been any changes with my work or anything else in my project. Everything else other than the photoshoot has been simple and relitively straight forward.

Draft article

Hello and welcome to my draft article. The name of my artist is yet unknown and will be soon decided. I think the name of my artist will be put in big bold letters on my article page and front cover next to my artist. This will bring attention for my artist to my target audience. In my article i think i will discuss their personal life which will include family and friends, how they became famous, the pressure of a grime lifestyle and any advice on how to cope with the pressure and advice on how to make it 'big'.  I still need to decide on an album name for my artist which will be known as soon as possible. I think on my front cover i will attatch a title which state : Exclusive interview !!! Here are some questions i will be asking my artist and a respomse i will expect. This is only an example and the real answers will be revealed in my final draft of my magazine. Studio: How did you first get into music and at what age? Artist: Well it all started when my family bought me some grime CD's when i was 14. I was inspired by the music and the lyrics it contained. I had always enjoyed music in the past but i definitely knew that grime was now my new favourite. I always thought of writing my own lyrics but i thought it was too hard and only certain people could do it but i couldn't of been more wrong. I talked to my mother about it a few weeks after she bought me some grime CD's and she said "you can do it if you put your mind to it". I took that to mind and decided to try my first lyric, surprisingly it wasn't as hard as i thought to rhyme my words as i had to write poems in school which involved lots of rhyming and from then on i got writing more and more of my own lyrics and got a few songs together. I told my friend who was like at brother to me at the time and he suggested i send my songs to a small label to see what they thought of it as he loved my music. I took his advice and luckily my uncle worked in the music business so it was easier than i thought to send my music in. They didn't get back to me for at least 6 months so i dropped the thought of ever becoming a music superstar but carried on writing music for the fun of it and my friends joined me and started making some music for my to spit my lyrics to. We made a great team together. After around 6 months the label got back to me and told me they liked my music but wanted to hear much more from me so i had to send in a whole CD. I was speechless just getting a good response from this label and as i hadn't had a reply for 6 months i had already wrote around a full CD, i just need a few more songs. I knew this CD had to be of excellent quality so i took a couple of weeks improving my whole CD to the best i could and i sent it off about 4 weeks after i got the reply. It took a couple of weeks for another reply but from then on they offered me an interview and i got a contract producing grime music. I absolutely loved my experience. Studio: What's your favourite part of your music lifestyle and why? Artist: Thats a tough one, i love the whole experience but if i had to pick out one part i guess i would have to say the recording of the music because i get to spit my lyrics to not only my label manager but i get it recorded in high quality and i get to listen to it to see how it sounds and to see if its time to publish my song officially to the public. Studio: What do your family think of you having 'made it big'? They are so proud of me. They are really happy for me but they don't get to see me as much as im always either away recording or im on tour.  Studio: Do you miss your family when you travel on tour? I do miss them very much and wish i could spend some more time with them. I try to come back to see them as much as possible but its hard when you have a busy lifestyle. We do keep in contact all the time through email and through phone but there's nothing like spending some quality time with your family. Studio: Do you ever take them with you or would they just distract you or get in the way? I would love to take my family with me as it means i could spend more time with them but my contract states that i can only bring along 1 guest on tour with me and it would be unfair to separate my family, plus they have grand children to look after from time to time. I have previously taken my mum on tour so i could spend some quality time with her and after the tour i came back to see my dad. I do miss my family but its just the life i have chosen.  Studio:Do you have any advice for the youngsters out there that want to follow in your footsteps? The main advice i would give it that you should never put yourself down, i did from time to time but my family helped me believe in myself i look where i am now. Definitely tell your family and friends to help you and support you and you will find it a lot easier. Never give up and stick to it and as long as you keep beliefe you can make it. Studio: Finally would you like to say anything to the Studio magazine? Well firstly i would like to thank you so much for giving me this oppertunity. This is the first interview i have had with a big named music magazine. I have had such a great time and would gladly come back in the future to do another interview anytime you wish. I would also like to say thanks to everyone that has taken interest in me and has supported me from the beggining weither fans, friends or family, i couldnt of got to where i am today without the support i have recieved. Finnaly my new single ...................................... is being released in shops on 4th of April so keep a look out for that as i think it is the biggest track i have recorded so far, and my 2011 album will be released in summer which is named 'Bang Tidy'. Thank you again and i shall hope to speak to you again soon.

Here are my drawn mock ups which are the front cover, the contents page and the article page. I have looked at many magazines to get inspiration on how to layout my magazine and here is what i came up with. These might not be my final designs but they will definitely look similar to these.

Institute - producing and distributing my magazine

For this task i had to find a institution to produce and distribute my product. First i chose EMAP. EMAP is a business-to-business multiplatform media group, whose brands inform, inspire and connect within the sectors they operate in. For millions of people across the globe involved in the built environment, retail, media, fashion, health, education, government and automotive sectors, Emap provides essential news, analysis and access.Emap run over 30 market leading business to business award ceremonies within the Retail, Public Sector, Fashion, Media and Built Environment markets.

IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK adults – while our websites collectively reach over 14 million users every month.
IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone, with a focus on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women. 

Both of these institutions would be suitable to produce and distribute my magazine as they are two of the worlds best selling magazine companies. I think that they are both great companies but through research IPC would be the better of the two as they have sold more magazines and got higher rating out of the two

Analysis of band images (posters, CD covers etc)

Here is a picture of the grime group 'Boy Better Know'. They are from London and are the UK's leading grime group. All the members of the group are looking towards the camera which is direct mode of address and this will attract in the audience's. This is a great picture as it shows the whole group, the colours stand out to make it look attractive to the audience and they also have their logo on their t-shirts which promotes the group as a whole. This would be a great picture to put on the front of a magazine or CD as it shows the audience just what their group is about even though they are just standing together.

Here is a picture of one of 'Boy Better Know's' album covers. This is a really good picture as the colours are bright and lively which makes it stand out and invite the audience in to look at the CD. It has the grime group on the front cover so audiences will easily recognize who's CD this is. Again they have the logo on their t-shirt which promote their group as a whole and they also have the name of one of their songs as the title of the CD which id 'Too Many Man'. This is a very popular song around the world and the music video shows the whole group in a club looking how they look on the front cover of the CD. Once again they are all looking towards the camera so this shows direct mode of address and will attract the audience in.

This is the official 'Boy Better Know' logo and it is used in all of their music videos and magazines/CD covers to promote their group. It is very simple which is a good thing as more complicated logos can be too much for a person to take in. This can also be bad as some people might see it and think it is too simple and therefore boring. The colour of the logo differs from the one above. This one is black, white and blue. These again are very simple colours but they change depending on the backgroud or the CD/magazine they are publishing. Here is their logo again but with different colours and a different background:

This logo is very different from the other as its colours have changed and gone more comple to match the background which again has gone more complex and complicated. In my opinion this logo is much better than the first one we have seen.

Reader Profile

This is my reader profile. This is a group from north lancashire and they listen to grime music. They are all aged 16 - 25. These are the type of people i wish to aim my magazine at as i think it would appeal to them the most and would sell to these type of people the most. This group listen to grime and tend to buy grime magazines now and then to keep up with the latest trends and songs. So for my main audience i want to aim it at people like this who are interested in grime music and clothing and are in the age barrier of 16 - 25.

Photo shoot plan

For my photo shoot i will be taking pictures in the studio and outside so i can get different backgrounds and different contrasts of lighting. My props will probably include quite bright clothes so they stand out on the front cover. I will also take my shots at different angles so all of my pictures are different from one another. I think there colours and props i choose will fit in with my genre of grime. For my final shot i will be taking a medium shot as this will fit the front cover best.

Mood board

This is my mood board. As you can see i have included the name of my magazine which is 'studio.' I have also included some pictures of that could fit in with the genre of my magazine. I think that just from the images and fonts you can guess what my music genre is going to be. I decided on these fonts because they again fit in with the genre of music i am doing. I also chose a background of corrugated iron as this fits in with my genre of music as it is an underground style. The fonts i chose were from www.dafont.com . I have included a small logo in the bottom left corner of my magazine to represent the style of music chosen.

Questionnaire information sheet

For this task i had to crate a question sheet that i will hand out which will help me decide on a final name for my magazine. I had a few idea of what it could be called. Here is  copy of my questionnaire:

As you can see from my results the most popular name is Studio. At first this was the name i originally wanted and now i have handed out questionnaires and got my results back i have confidence in this name and will use it for my magazine.

Planning - Equipment and technologies

Now i am into my planning section i will consider what i need to complete my music magazine. So far i decided i will need a camera so i can take some photos of my magazine star. These will be taken both in the studio and outside so i can get different backgrounds and different lighting into my pictures. This means i will need to also use the lighting from the studio and maybe even the green screen. I will need to use photoshop to edit my pictures to make them look how i want them to and Indesign to create my music magazine. I will also need to use the internet for research for my magazine and for research of other magazines. I could also use other music magazines so i can get an idea of how to create a good layout and what makes a good music magazine. These could act as a template for my magazine. If i use all of the equipment and technologies above then my music magazine should be a success.

Questionnaire results

As you can see n a previous blog, i printed out 10 questionnaires and handed them out for people to answer. Here are my results: I like my results and they have given me more of an idea of what the most popular music genre is and what interests they like to see in a magazine. These results might influence me to change my magazine and change my original ideas.

Target Audience

After some research i decided upon my target audience. My magazine will be aimed at mainly males aged 16 - 24. This is mainly because i am doing a grime music genre and this type of music is usually aimed at people at this age as it is the type of music they usually listen to. I don't think the race of a person will matter and my magazine will be aimed at lower class and working class people as i think it will relate most to them.  I think it is a great target audience as it will appeal to them in a way other magazines don't. Also my magazine will contain information that will interest my target audience so they will buy it and look forward to reading it. I also think my magazine will definitely be aimed more towards a mainstream audience but not fully mainstream as grime is very fast and upbeat. It is also quite new and very popular in big cities but it is also very popular in the ghettos and suburban towns and slums. Overall i think i have picked a very good target audience and when my magazine is produced it will appeal to them a lot.

Questionnaire

As you can see this is my questionnaire. For this task i will pint out 10 copies of this and hand them out around college. This will give me an idea of what my target audience like and could influence my decisions at a later stage.

Music magazine circulation figures

For this task i had to analyze the figures of magazine that are published in the uk. Here my my website with which i found the uk magazine figures -http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=45039 . As you can see some of the magazines that were included were - 'Mojo' 'Rhythm' 'Mixmag' and 'Kerrang'. Only one or two of these magazines could link in with my idea of doing a 'grime' magazine so it tells me that my magazine would have a chance of a sale.

Article style and structure

Here we are back to the article page. I will talk about the style and structure of the page. Here you can see a big, bold title in the top corner which stands out. Also they have put a little aeroplane type logo next to the heading. This stands out the most on the page and invite you in to read on. It is structured in paragraphs along the left hand side and along the bottom and the rest of the page is filled with pictures from when Will Smith was shooting a scene for the film 'I am legend' and one of which is the main picture which fills most of the page. I really like the structure of this page as you have you large image that fills a lot of the page so it invites the reader in and keeps them interested if they get bored of reading easily. The only disadvantage of this page is that it doesn't contain enough writing or information about the selected topic. For my article page i think i will have a large image similar to the magazine above but i will have more text so the reader gets to find out more about the chosen star/subject. The style of this page is quite professional as it shows Will Smith at a filming shoot. The writing is also quite formal and professional. The colours are plain and simple but they work well together to make it look interesting. Overall i really like this article page as it contain everything you need to know, it would just be a little better if it had a little more information.

Here is a copy of the top 40 in the UK. As part of my task i had to analyze the type of music in the charts. Most of the music in the top 40 is pop and mainstream music. This tells me that my idea of grime/rap probably wouldn't sell well within the music world which indicates it would not be as popular as other magazines such as pop or mainstream. This hasnt changed my mind about making a grime/rap genre' magazine, i see it as a challenge as pop magazines would be easier to produce. Even though there are a couple of rap genre songs in the Top 40 there main percentage is pop and mainstream.
